Production Arts BTEC Level 3 Diploma at West Herts College

Course description

Do you think your future lies beyond the spotlight in the backstage professions of lighting or sound design, set construction or stage manager?

There are countless careers to choose from. To succeed you’ll need to be technically competent, possess an artistic sense and understand how your role fits into the wider production team.

Your working life could be in a venue or at events and festivals.

Course content

Join us and learn by completing technical theatre projects and assignments based on real-life working situations, activities and demands.

You’ll work alongside performance and music students, staging productions in-house and externally at venues across the community. On campus, in Watford, we have everything you need to bring your creativity to life. Alongside our fully-equipped theatre space, there’s a green room, plus costume stores and dance studios.

Our focus on key aspects of technical theatre is complemented by modules providing everything you need to start a career in theatre or related professions.

Confidence once you start work matters as much as talent. We’ll build yours through GAP work placements with local employers. We’ll help with maths and English, too – preparing you now for working life or further study at university.

You will study towards the L3 diploma (90 credits) in your first year and progress on to the extended diploma (180 credits) in the second year.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs (A*–C) including English or maths, or a Level 2 Diploma, plus interview.
