Course description

What will I learn on this course?

Travel and tourism is an important and expanding area of industry. Everyone likes going on holiday and many of you will maybe find work one day within travel and tourism. You will cover all the basics of the travel and tourism industry destinations and customer service. Specialist units cover a wide range of issues from marketing to long haul destinations and from hospitality to working with children in holiday settings.

You will develop your skills of presentation, research and working with the public. Students will gain an excellent range of experience that will be already useful when applying for jobs in the sector.

How will I be assessed?

You will build a portfolio of assignments that are relevant to the travel and tourism sector. These assignments require you to evidence your practical skills and knowledge. Evidence could be provided through observation, video recordings, photographs, written work and other documentation. The work will be assessed by your teacher, internally moderated and then externally verified by Edexcel to ensure national standards are met.

Entry requirements

For the BTEC Level 3 Certificate (which is equivalent to one GCE AS level) you will normally be expected to have a 5 GCSE passes at grade A* to C.

For the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (which is equivalent to one GCE A level) you should have successfully completed the BTEC level 3 Certificate.
