Supported Learning - Learning for Living at North Kent College

Course description

A course designed for learners from a variety of educational backgrounds including those who have specific learning difficulties and/or additional needs.  All applicants must have a current Learning Disability Assessment (LDA) or an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).

 

 

Course content

All learners will develop an Individual Learning Plan, with the help of their personal tutor, to ensure their learning needs are met.  They will study the OCN Certificate in Independent Living - Living in the community.  It consists of various units which may include:

  • Rights and Responsibilities
  • Participating in Team Activities
  • Eating Out
  • Knowing your Local Area
  • Living in the Community
  • Personal Awareness

Entry requirements

Entry is by interview.  No formal qualifications are required.  All applicants must have a current Learning Disability Assessment (LDA) or an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).

Assessment

OCN qualification is portfolio based.  Functional Skills qualifications are exam based.

16-18 - no tuition fees

Learners may progress to other College programmes, open or supported employment.
