French - A Level at Sheffield Park Academy

Course description

The A level provides a logical progression from GCSE with discrete skills-specific testing and a focus on language.

Course content

Unit 1: Spoken Expression and Response in French

Unit 2: Understanding and Written Response in French

Unit 3: Understanding and Spoken Response in French

Unit 4: Research, Understanding and Written Response in French


In addition, In the first year (AS), students will spend one week working in a French primary school near Paris. They will work 4 days supervising pupils and 1 day following their French peers in the upper secondary school. In the second year of the course students will spend one week working for a French company: work experience.

This year, our Y13 students will be working at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris with Air France

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above. Including English and French grade 5 or above.



Through written, modular exams that are externally assessed.

Future opportunities

French A-level is a highly respected course at universities and therefore would lead into other French based courses at a higher level.
