Art and Design Textiles at Sprowston Community High School
We offer the choice to take endorsed Textiles as an option within the Art & Design A level. A choice which sits particularly well alongside Textiles technology or for anyone wishing to take a more applied art course.
In AS Textile Art, you are set a wide ranging theme, working with many exciting different materials and textile techniques also including; drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. You will produce textile outcomes. You will have the opportunity to be experimental and creative with a wide range of techniques including machine work, felt making, dyeing, fabric fusing, batik, textile printing, image maker and many more. You may combine techniques with materials you would never have thought about using before or even thought of as textile materials.
We work in a relaxed but structured studio environment treating you as individual artists. We begin the year with a trip to the coast. This is always an enjoyable day where you get the opportunity to select images and other sources to use in your project and get to know your group and teachers. In lessons, we will teach you specific skills while at the same time encouraging you to develop your creative side and enthusiasm for art. You will develop your skills and investigations further in A2 where you have the opportunity to design your own project, choosing your own theme and techniques. We run a trip to galleries in London. You will have the chance to investigate the work of other artists and develop your own knowledge skills and understanding in Textile Art.
We want you to discover what you are good at but also help you to develop in all areas to achieve your full creative potential. There are specific Sixth Form Art study areas where you can work in your free periods and use materials and equipment in an art specific place.
To study A Level courses you will need to have achieved at least 5 GCSE Grades A*-C in full courses including either English or Maths. C grade or higher in GCSE Art or BTEC equivalent C grade in GCSE English preferable
