Fashion Design and Production - BTEC Foundation / Extended Diploma - Level 3 at Dudley College

Course description

Are you interested in pursuing a career in the fashion or textiles industries?

This course covers a wide range of specialisms from fashion and textile design, creative research and development, observational, technical and life drawing, fashion illustration, concept building, customer and market profiling, range planning, pattern cutting, garment and accessory production techniques, printed and constructed textiles, fashion industry and business, contextual studies, visual communication styles and techniques, colour exploration, fabric and fibre knowledge and computer-aided design. During this course you will have the opportunity to create your own textile pieces and fashion collections and have the chance to see your work come to life during public fashion shows and final year exhibition.

Course content

Entry requirements

For entry 16/17:

4 GCSEs at grade C or above (including English language), one in a creative subject or BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design Level 2 or related subject. You will also be asked to attend an interview with a portfolio of art and design work.  If you do not meet the entry requirements but have considerable talent and enthusiasm you may be considered. Due to the popularity of this course please apply early to avoid disappointment.

For entry 17/18:

3 GCSEs at grade C, one must be in a creative field and a grade 4 in English OR BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design Level 2 or related subject. Assessment

Continuous assessment of course work in the first and second years across a range of mandatory and professional specialist units. Assessments will be project based, set and marked by course tutors. There will also be externally set tasks that will be marked by the awarding body.

Year 2 culminates in a major fashion show production and final exhibition.

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Bursary fund

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2016.

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.

***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.

Future opportunities

HND or BA (Hons) in subject areas such as fashion design, fashion marketing and communications, fashion management, fashion journalism, accessory design (contour, lingerie, footwear, millinery), constructed, embroidered or printed textiles, knitwear design or employment within the creative industries.
