Music BTEC Level 3 at Runshaw College

Course description

Welcome to the BTEC Extended Diploma in Music - the complete Musicianship programme at 3 at Runshaw College.

We are very excited to be introducing this course for the first time in September 2017, following the success of our Music Performance course for the past few years. This is an opportunity for serious and gifted musicians to extend thier skills in the areas of Performance, Composition, Musical Analysis, Music Theory and Production.

This unique course, equivalent to 3 A Levels and running for a 2 year period, focuses on all the aspects required to become an outstanding musician. The course combines practical skills with theoretical elements, allowing you to perform, create and explore music through a vast range of genres.

The full resources of the department will be at your disposal, including a recording studio, multiple performance spaces and a fully equipped MAC Music Tech suite.

There will be numerous instrumental ensembles fo ryou to be involved with, resulting in serveral concerts, along wiht workshops and trips to prestigious Music instituitions.

Entry requirements

For access to our Advanced Vocational courses, our entry requirements are 5 x grade C equivalent (5 x Grade 4 or C).
For Music specifically, this should include a C in Music OR ABRSM Grade 3 Music Theory AND a successful audition.


Assessment takes place through a variety of methods, including teacher assessment, coursework that is set and marked by Edexcel and more formalised written exams. You will be encouraged to push past the boundaries of your musical skills by exploring improvisation and working with new software to create music that combines music technology and creativity.
