Physics AS & A Level at Churchill Community College

Course description

The aim of physicsisto study nature at its most fundamental level - to discover and apply the general laws that govern force and motion, matter and energy,space and time. Physics can be as concrete asthe stressesin a bridge or as abstract asthe curved space-time near a black hole.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5A*-C at GCSE including English Language and Maths and Dual Award Science GCSE at grades C/C or above (higher paper) or GCSE Physics at grade C or above (higher paper).

It is also preferred thatstudents who opt for A-Level Physics also take A-Level Maths.

Assessment

  • Module 1: Particles, Quantum Phenomena and Electricity
    Written exam (20% of A level)
  • Module 2: Mechanics, Materials and Waves
    Written exam (20% of A level)
  • Module 3: Investigative and Practical Skills in AS Physics
    Investigative Skills Assignment (10% of A level)
  • Module 4: Fields and Further Mechanics
    Written exam (20% of A level)
  • Module 5: Nuclear and Thermal Physics and Option Unit
    Written exam (20% of A level)
  • Module 6: Investigative and Practical Skills in A2 Physics
    Investigative Skills Assignment (10% of A level)
