Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) at Heysham High School Sports College
Extended Project is a stand-alone qualification. It gives students the opportunity to expand their learning in a current field of study, or they can explore their own personal interests and aspirations. It allows students to investigate something that interests them and go on to produce a single piece of work that presents their findings. At level 3, this can take the form of a dissertation, an investigation, a performance or an artefact.
The Project encourages students to develop a broad spectrum of skills, such as independent learning; initiative; project management; planning; research; problem-solving and presentation skills. These skills will be used over and over again in the worlds of work and higher education. In the world of higher education, having a Project qualification differentiates students from their peers and demonstrates motivation for their intended course of study.
A good level of literacy is required to be able to complete the coursework involved in this subject as well as a willingness to learn and good attendance. Grade C in GCSE English is preferred but not essential.
There are no exams; the course is 100% internally assessed and externally moderated.
Folders and other stationery are needed to ensure work is organised. All texts which are studied for the course are provided. Access to the internet at home or at school is essential.
An opportunity to gain UCAS points and an AS qualification in an area of interest.
