Drama AS/A2 Level at Holte School
The course demands practical, creative and communication skills in equal measure. You will be required to write about drama, perform drama and to develop powers of analysis to become an informed critic.
The course will involve taking part in productions, and studying plays and playwrights. As well as learning how the actors or designers apply their skills to create a meaningful production, students will gain an understanding of the theory underpinning the practical work.
Unit 1 - Study of two plays by two different play-wrights, watch a professional theatre performance and write a theatre review.
Unit 2 (2 sections) - Section A - Perform a role (performer or designer) in the production of a full length play.
Section B -Perform a monologue or duologue of your choice.
Unit 3 - Devise an original piece of drama, taking on the role of a designer or performer and write a response to the piece.
Unit 4 - A written exam based on a Shakespeare production seen, and a play studied through work-shops in class.
5 GCSE’s grade A*-C including English and Mathematics.
Year 1 - AS
Unit 1 ( 40%) Through written and practical work.
Unit 2 (60%) Section A - Performance and written. Section B - Performance to an audience.
Year 2 - A Level
Unit 3 (40%) Practical, performance and supporting evidence.
Unit 4 (60%) 2 1/2 hour written exam.
Can lead to further study in Drama, Theatre Studies and performing Arts in Higher Education at Degree level or drama school. Can lead to a career in the Performing Arts Industries.
