Public Services & Sport:Level 1 at Suffolk New College

Course description

This is a good stepping stone which will help you progress on to level 2 Public Service or level 2 Sport, employment or an apprenticeship. You will learn new skills and information by taking part in practical activities. There are also opportunities for you to learn outside of the College, taking part in work related learning, giving you a real life look in to how different areas of public service work and to improve your employability skills.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English and/or Maths will need to study an English or/and Maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.

Course content

You will study units about Sport and Public Services these include improving health and fitness for entry into Uniformed Public Services, assisting the public, how the body works, personal skills for Public Services. There are also practical units, such as introduction to expeditions, map reading and taking part in sport. As well as practical team work. You will also look at job opportunities in Public Services and the Sport and Active Leisure industry. There will also be 40 hours work related learning to improve your skills and opportunities to gain employment. You will be in College for three full days.

A profile of GCSEs at grade F or grade 1, or their equivalent

Tuition Costs 

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017. For all students aged 19+ please visit our website www.suffolk.ac.uk. Details regarding fee remission and Advanced Learning Loans can also be found at the above website.

Additional Costs

£100 for trips and polo shirt

Future opportunities

Successful completion of the level 1 and a suitable level of English will allow progression onto level 2 Public Services or level 2 Sport or into employment
