Creative / Professional Writing & Journalism Level 3 at Grimsby Institute

Course description

Interested in becoming a journalist, scriptwriter, copywriter or media professional?

You will write magazine and newspaper articles, film, radio and computer game story scripts, and fiction books or comics, as well as bringing your writing to life through practical media projects using industry-standard hardware and software.

You could be writing for anything from glossy consumer magazines to specialist trade journals. If you love writing, doing research and are creative this could be the perfect course for you.

Course content

On this Level 3 course learners will learn how to report on and research, print, TV and radio news stories.

You will also cover different writing styles, plot development, use of language and the  structure of an article.

Learners will also record radio news, film and edit scripts, publish in print and online and have the chance to learn about basic photography and page layout design.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual's previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.

The following list offers a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.

Entry Level 3 Programmes

No formal entry qualifications but subject to approval from the Foundation Learning Assessment Team.
 

Level 1 Programmes

GCSEs grade E to G or equivalent, including Foundation Awards and Entry Level Certificates.
 

Level 2 Programmes

Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 1 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at Level 1.
 

Level 3 Programmes

Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 2 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at level 2.
