Course description

This course is for students interested in Business and Law, who wish to know how the legal system works in civil, criminal and Business cases.The course has been designed and developed to give learners a qualification that will enable them to:* Develop their employability and professional skills* Focus on their own self development through personal study* Interact with legal executives and business professionals throughout the course of studyThe course is unit based and includes 8 Business units which are:1. The Business Environment2. Business Resources3. Introduction to Marketing4. Business Communication15. Development Planning for a Career in Business19. Developing Teams in Business37. Understanding Business Ethics38. Business and the Economic EnvironmentThere will be additional units studied on the course to explore the legal environment and framework and will include:9. Aspects of Contract and Business law10. Aspects of Civil Liability for Business11. Aspects of the Legal System and Law-making process 12. Aspects of Criminal Law relating to BusinessAlongside the Business Law Diploma (2 A Level equivalent) students will study the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Law (1 A Level equivalent). This will consist of 6 mandatory units which are:1. Dispute Solving in the Legal System2. Understanding Law Making3. Aspects of Legal Liability4. Contract Law5. Consumer Law6. Aspects of Employment Law

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at grades A* - C including maths and English: or a BTEC First Diploma in a related subject area at Merit grade or above (plus GCSE maths and English at grade C), and a successful interview.

Assessment

There is continual assessment for each of the units by vocational assignments leading to external quality assessment called National Standards Sampling.Students will also be required to undertake at least a four week internship at a host organisation.

Future opportunities

Opportunities to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Level 4/5 BTEC Higher Nationals or an honours degree. This Diploma and Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels for university entrance purposes.
