Design and Technology (Fashion and Textiles) A Level at North Bromsgrove High School

Course description

This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives students the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers, especially those in the creative industries. The students will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put their learning in to practice by producing products of their choice. They will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by higher education and employers.

Course content

Paper 1
Core technical principles and core designing and making principles
- Written exam: 2 hours
- 100 marks
- 25% of A-level.
Questions are a mixture of short answer, multiple choice and extended responses.

Paper 2
Additional specialist knowledge, core technical and core designing and making principles
- Written exam: 2 hours
- 25% of A-level Questions are a mixture of short answer, multiple choice and extended response.

Non-exam assessment (NEA)
Practical application of core technical principles, core designing and making principles and additional specialist knowledge
- Substantial design and make task
- 45 hours
- 100 marks
- 50% of A-level

Entry requirements

- Standard entry requirements
- Grade A*-C in GCSE design and technology is helpful, but not essential.
