Course description

The course is a combination of theory and practical sessions. You will learn and practice your skills in our industry standard workshops to prepare you for your future career.

Course content

Course modules include: • Health & Safety • Job roles within the automotive industry • Engineering hand skills • Diagnosis & rectification of electrical faults • Diagnosis & rectification of engine faults • Diagnosis & rectification of chassis system faults • Diagnosis & rectification of transmission faults • Methods of inspection • Overhauling steering & suspension units.

Entry requirements

• You will need to have completed the Level 2 Certificate in Heavy Vehicle Repair & Technology or Level 2 Heavy Goods Vehicle Apprenticeship • 3 GCSEs at grade C or above • Commitment, enthusiasm and the motivation to succeed • Good communication skills • Excellent record of attendance and punctuality • Personal interview.

    • AEC at Parkway

      There are two City of Bristol College buildings that form the Advanced Engineering Centre (AEC) at Parkway.

      Parkway Centre

      The Parkway Building is situated off New Road next to SGS College/WISE Campus and Abbeywood Community School.

      AEC Centre

      The AEC Building is also situated off New Road, between Abbeywood Community School and the BTE Academy approximately 300 yards from the Parkway Centre.

      Our state-of-the-art Advanced Engineering Centre (AEC) brings together our College’s existing engineering, aeronautical, manufacturing and automotive courses into one place.

      It provides great industry facilities including workshops, laboratories, computer aided simulation rigs and testing/diagnostic equipment.

      The centre provides students with the latest technology and uses the highest standard of the latest industry equipment, including:

      • A vehicle brake testing station
      • An on-site commercial jet aircraft
      • 3D printing
      • Advanced CAD modelling software
      • Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines

      Aeronautical facilities

      • training helicopter
      • light aircraft
      • computer aided simulation rigs
      • wind tunnel
      • large hangar for two aircrafta
      • vionics laboratory,
      • electrical laboratory

      • an engine workshop
      • composite material workshop.

      Engineering facilities

      Motor vehicle facilities

      Other facilities include innovative learning spaces and a large Study Centre. This equipment allows our students to work with the latest technology to give them the skills and experience they need to progress into employment.
