Spanish GCE A Level at Greenhead College
All Greenhead`s Modern Language courses are designed to enable you to learn more about the country and its people as you develop your reading, listening, speaking and writing skills to a high level.
Using the multi-media facilities you will learn how to use Spanish to express your opinions on Social, Political and Cultural topics, including Film and Drama. All students have individual weekly conversation sessions to develop their abilities.
There are two A Level Spanish courses; one for students who already have a GCSE in Spanish and a fast track ab-initio course for students with no prior knowledge of the language.
The specification includes study on the following topics:
- Family Structures
- Youth Trends
- Education and the World of Work
- The Spanish Speaking World
- Immigration and Multiculturalism across the Spanish Speaking World
- The study of a film and a play or novel.
The college gives priority to its 12 partner schools. Places are offered to other applicants on a competitive basis.
All prospective students must achieve a GCSE grade 4 or higher in GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics.
To access a three A Level programme a student must achieve, in addition to the above, a minimum of grade 6's in three GCSE subjects.
Students who achieve a grade 8/9 profile at GCSE will be offered the opportunity to study for four A Levels.
Prospective Spanish students must achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE Spanish (if taken) OR a grade 6 in GCSE English Language to study the ab-initio course.
Listening, Reading and Writing examination
Languages are seen as facilitating subjects for entry to any course at University and are a useful complementary skill for studies in science, engineering, medicine, history, etc.
Language graduates readily find employment across all sectors including banking, law, business and media as the course developes highly desirable transferable skills.
