Business AS/A2 Level at St Mary's Catholic High School

Course description

The syllabus investigates the principles which underlie the key areas of business activity and the application of those principles to the management decision making processes of organisations.

Consequently there is a concentration on management skills and problem solving techniques in the themes which constitute the subject matter:

Course content

AS Level Content:

What is business?

Managers, leadership and decision making

Decision making to improve marketing, operational, financial and human resource performance


A2 Level Content (as above plus):

Analysing the strategic position of the business

Choosing strategic direction

Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies

Managing strategic change

Entry requirements

Students wishing to take Business at A level should have achieved grade B or above across a range of at least three GCSE subjects and at least grade B in English or Maths.

Future opportunities

This subject obviously leads on to relevant courses in Business and Management Studies, Accounting, Economics, Languages, Law etc. in higher education. In employment it is relevant to careers in management in any field of industry or commerce, the professions, the health service, education etc and the European Union if taken with a language.
