Performing Engineering Operations NVQ Level 1 Certificate at North Lindsey College

Course description

This is a practical course designed to give students a basic introduction to mechanical and electrical engineering skills and the essential underpinning knowledge needed to support these skills.

Course content

A choice of NVQ1 Performing Engineering Operations (practical) units:
- Wiring and Testing Electrical Equipment and Circuits
- Producing Electrical Components Using Hand Fitting Techniques
- Making Components Using Hand Tools and Fitting Techniques
- Using Lathes for Turning Operations
- Manual Metal Arc Welding
- Oxy fuel cutting

Entry requirements

Students will need to attend a selection test and interview.


You will be assessed through the production of a portfolio of evidence.

Future opportunities

You can progress to employment in engineering or manufacturing as a semi-skilled worker or operative. You can also progress to an appropriate level 1 engineering technical certificate and potentially, upon completion, to an engineering apprenticeship.
