The role of the Teaching Assistant in schhols has developed considerably and quickly in recent times. A Teaching Assistant role is centered mainly on assisting in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher and class teachers. This involves assisting in the implementation of education programmes for students and helping to monitor their progress. Providing support for individual students to help them fully take part in classroom activities can be challenging but exilharating and you learn to "make a difference"
Throughout your Apprenticeship you will be required to perform a range of tasks which could include :
- Help improve own + team pracice in schools
- Undrestand schools as organisations
- Maintain communication and professional relationships with children young people and adults
- Support safeguard and the wellbeing of children and young people
- Understand child and young people development
- Provide displays in schools
You will need to have excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic, inspiring and resourceful. If you enjoy working with children, want to make a difference to their learning and development, have a caring nature, you would thrive in a Teaching enviroment.
Although there are no specific entry requirements, GCSE's in Maths and E nglish would be an advantage, but whatever your GCSE's we will design an Apprenticeship to suit your needs.
You will be assessed in your workplace through a mixture of observation of your practical skills when working with children and young people. A dedicated Training Advisor will be appointed at the commencement of your Apprenticeship and they will support you throughout your learning.Your Training Advisor will assess your knowledge as well as observe your practical skills, through oral and written questioning.
Your training plan will contain off and on the job leraning. The majority of your time will be spent in the workplace working with the children. In addition to this you will attend off the job theory. Upon succesful completion of your Apprenticeship you will gain the following :
Teaching Assistant - Level 2 / 3
Functional Maths - Level 1/2
You will be paid an Apprenticeship salary by your employer, this will be agreed when you are offered a job. For thise who are aged 16-18, Apprenticeship Training is fully funded by the government and all of the agreed costs of your learning will be met. If you are 19+ partial government funding is available. Further information is available upon enquiry.
There are a range of progression opportunities for those completing Teaching Assistant Apprenticeships. These include moving onto an Advanced Apprenticeship at Level 3 and into higher education after that.
From Level 2 there is a pathway of learning to enable you to progress :
- Level 3 Teaching Asistant
- Higher Level Teaching Assistant
- Early Years Teacher
- Primary school teacher.
