Youth Work - Certificate at Queensbury School

Course description

This course is offered by ‘Go Live’. Go-live is a programme of learning that allows students to study for a vocational qualification. Two days each week you will be out of school with a training provider and the remaining days will be in school working on other projects. The programme is for students aged 16-19.

Course content

This qualification aims to improve the service to young people. It embraces the national standards for the practice of youth and community work and offers a range of skills which help to develop confidence and self-motivation in young people. At Level 2 learners will complete six units which include:

  • Engaging young people in relationships and conversations
  • Young people as active citizens
  • Encouraging young people to develop awareness and understanding of themselves
  • Understanding and reflecting on practice and learning
  • Equality, diversity and participation
  • Promoting a safe environment in youth work

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications. All students are required to attend an interview prior to being accepted onto the course and will need to carry out a basic skills assessment. What we are looking for are enthusiastic students who genuinely want to improve themselves. Academic ability although important to all courses is secondary to commitment and a willingness to work hard. This is a course that values practical skills and the ability to work with others in school and at an external training provider. If you are interested in this course, you must speak to your Head of Year in the first instance. There are no formal entry qualifications.
