Science (Applied - Forensic, Medical and Environmental Science Pathways) - Level 3 Extended Diploma (Edexcel) at Blackpool and The Fylde College
The Extended Diploma in Applied Science programme has been designed specifically to meet the needs of the national developments in Science. This programme will help your development in terms of knowledge application and experimental / practical science techniques.
Students will develop a range of analytical and scientific skills and practical techniques of enquiry to enable them to apply knowledge, understanding to the workplace. During the course, students will be given the opportunity to identify and solve problems and will be able to communicate their arguments and analysis in a range of ways to different audiences as well as promoting Lifelong Learning which is a key component of the course. The Science team comprises an enthusiastic team of academically and industrially experienced staff who are highly committed to the success of their students and to the overall success of the course.
This is mostly carried out by means of practical based assignments which are set throughout the duration of the programme for each module. Typically a module would contain between 2 and 4 assignments.
The course has been developed with support from industry so that modules meet learner and employer requirements. A number of industry guest speakers are invited in throughout the course, and some employers may also provide work placement opportunities for our students.
This course will enable students to progress onto an undergraduate degree or further professional qualification in a wide range of Science based/related areas. We have well-developed working relationships with a wide range of employers, through which we help and support learners into sustainable employment. Successful learners may also wish to convert this qualification into a full Honours degree by progressing to our FD/BSc Honours in Human Bioscience, FD/BSc Honours in Marine Biology & Coastal Zone Management or FD/BSc Environmental Science ( Wastes, Resources and Technology )all taught at the University Centre, in central Blackpool.

Career Progression Opportunities: On successful completion of this course you could seek employment opportunities in: a research laboratory in pharmaceuticals, a quality control laboratory in industrial manufacturing, a hospital laboratory; a materials testing laboratory in the construction, paper or plastics industry, a forensic science laboratory or an environmental science laboratory, Crime Scene Investigation; Laboratory Technician; Forensic Psychologist; Forensic Scientist; Forensic Fire Investigation; Police Force etc.
