Sport (Level 3 OCR National in Sport) at Kingsthorpe College

Course content

There are 4 mandatory units that must be completed for both qualifications offered. These units are:

  • Unit 1 - Sports Industry
  • Unit 2 - Sport in Society
  • Unit 3 - Sports Coaching
  • Unit 4 - Sport in the Uk

There are also a number of optional units that will be studied in order to achieve the qualification. These include:

  • Unit 9 - Technology in Sport
  • Unit 13 - Training and Fitness
  • Unit 14 - Sport and Exercise Psychology
  • Unit 15 - Injury in Sport
  • Unit 17 - Nutrition for Sport and Exercise

and many more.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs A* - C including a grade C or above in GCSE P.E. or a Pass grade or above in the Level 2 OCR National Award / Certificate in Sport. It is also desirable but not essential that students achieve a GCSE grade C or above in English, Maths or Science.

Assessment

Both courses are delivered over a two year period. All units are externally assessed by an OCR visiting Moderator. There are no external examinations. There will be ongoing assessments and moderations throughout the academic year.

Further information

The Level 3 OCR National Certificate / Diploma provides a pathway to Higher Education and employment within the sports sector.
