Introducing Caring for Children and Young People Level 2 Certificate (CACHE) at Richmond-upon-Thames College
This course has been specifically designed for students who have an interest in working with children or in a Health and Social Care environment.
The course combines practical activities such as rangoli designs, papier-mâché and making play dough. These lessons help the student to explore how children develop, and the benefit that these and many other activities may have on them.
4 GCSEs at grade D including English at grade 3 OR CACHE Caring for Children Level 1 Diploma at Pass with GCSE English at grade 3. Some experience of caring for young children such as babysitting, would be useful.
The course is assessed through various methods, including reflections on your practical work (you will attend a nursery placement for one day a week in the spring and summer term). You will also write short essays and build a portfolio using work produced in class. There is no exam for this course. By the end of the course your work will also go towards achieving an award in babysitting and an award in parenting skills.
You will need to obtain a police check from the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) to determine suitability as a 'fit' person to work with children. The DBS is currently £44. This will be carried out by arrangement with the College, prior to your enrolment on the course.
There will be a small additional cost for any enrichment outings that take place throughout the year, such as to museums, parks and an urban farm (prices are for 2015).
After successfully completing the certificate and gaining English and maths at a minimum of grade C, you could transfer onto the level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (early years educator).
