Applied Art & Design (Double Award) - AS Level at Skinners' Academy
We believe that students should have as much contact with arts professionals. We work extensively artists and designers in developing our student’s sensitivity to the world around them whilst broadening their vision of the arts. Our highly successful vocational course aims to train the students of today to be artists of tomorrow. Students follow the Edexcel GCE exam syllabus in Applied Art and Design in year 12 and the Advanced GCE in Applied Art and design in Year 13. In years 12 and 13 AS/A2 students follow the unendorsed art and design course. You can study for a Double Award - Year 1: AS GCE (6 units): Units 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and a choice of either Unit 4 or Unit 5 (15 periods a week) Students are encouraged to develop their own ideas and to direct their own learning wherever possible. Students with their teacher will decide on areas of visual interest they wish to pursue, taking into account the syllabus criteria. Students will be expected to work with independence in the studio with opportunity for individual discussion of ideas and materials exploration. They will be set regular negotiated targets with deadlines where applicable. Trips to galleries and museums are an integral part of the course, and student will be expected to keep a visual and written record of visits made, relating this to their critical study work.
