Latin at Drayton Manor High School

Course description

The course comprises the translation and study of texts, both prose and poetry, from the vast treasury of classical authors. Students learn about varying aspects of Roman society and life through reading literature and source material. Various works of literature are encountered from Historical to Love poetry, Comedy to Public Speaking. As well as covering advanced level study of Latin, this course will enable students to develop key skills, which are essential to further study or employment.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in Latin, Literature Studies, Modern Languages, History or more general higher education courses. With further training, you may wish to extend your interest in Latin and go into a job related to classical languages such as a Teacher or Researcher. You could also consider a job related to modern languages as the course will develop your understanding of different languages and cultures. The course also helps you develop the skills and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for. This may include using your language skills to work or study in foreign countries.
