A2 Level Physics at Nether Stowe School

Course description

The AQA A Level Physics is a 2 year course which will give studenta a better understanding of our Universe.

Course content

The A level Physics course includes the study of:

Year 1

1) Measuremnts and their errors

2) Particles and radiation

3) Waves

4) Mechanics and Materials

5) Electricity

Year 2

1) Further mechanics and thermal physics

2) Fields and their consequences

3) Nuclear Physics

4) Turning points in Physics

 

Entry requirements

Grade 6 or above in GCSE Physics and Grade 6 or above in Maths. 

However, each applicant will be considered on their own merit.

Assessment

3 Written exams - 2 hours each:

Paper 1 - Year 1 topics + SHM

Paper 2 - Thermal, Fields and Nuclear

Paper 3 - Practical, Data Anyalysis and Turning points in Physics

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Chemistry, Biology or Electronics to prepare for higher education in a science related subject or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Physics such as Science Technician or Electronics Engineer. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
