Financial Studies (IFS) AS/A2 Level at Havelock Academy

Course description



Financial Studies A level is a sound preparation for all degree courses, as there are many transferable skills that help with other subjects.

There are 5,000 business-based courses available in British universities – it’s by far the most popular degree- course subject. Many students choose to continue their Business Studies at university, and this A level is an excellent academic preparation for this.


Course content



Those of you that decide to go straight into employment will have learnt much from Financial Studies A level about the working world, managing your own finances and how to plan for unforeseen events.

We will cover understanding about how to budget and how people should act in employment.

Students should be interested in money, and how businesses make profit, advertising, including how adverts are made and why businesses use them.


Entry requirements



Previous knowledge of Business Studies is expected with a GCSE at grade C or above.

In order to be able to follow this course, you need to have achieved at least a grade C in English Language and a grade C in maths, as well as three other GCSEs.





In the lower sixth you will sit two exams; the first is called Planning and Financing a Business and the second is Managing a Business. Those who continue with the subject into the upper sixth will sit two further examinations, Strategies for Success and The Business Environment and Managing Change.

In each year both exams are in June; the final unit exam in the upper sixth will require students to study a business theme issued by the Exam Board from January onwards.

There is no coursework option in Financial Studies A level. You will sit two written exams and two multi choice online exams.


Future opportunities



There is the IFS University in London to continue your studies and thousands of Business related degree courses at university, including, Marketing, Event Management, Finance, Human Resources and Economics, these are BA (Hons) courses. If you wish to study financial services at a higher level.
