Music Technology BTEC Diploma Level 2 at New College Nottingham

Course description

If you love music, are interested in a music career and want to develop your technical skills in music production, this is the course for you.

You’ll get plenty of time in the studio, lots of time mixing, editing and making music and you’ll have the chance to work in real venues to support professional sound engineers, including the Capital FM Arena, one of our key industry partners.

Course content

During the course you will learn how to create, compose and record your own music productions and you will study the practical and technical skills needed to produce your own portfolio of music using industry standard hardware and software. 

Specific units include:

• Sound Recording Technique
• DJing Technology and Techniques
• Introduction to Music Technology 
• Music Awareness and Industry

You will be expected to demonstrate some experience and ability before you begin the course.

Entry requirements

Students must have ONE of the following: 

  • 4 GCSEs (3 at grades A*-D, including English & Maths
  • Introductory Music Level 1 at merit, plus GCSE English and Maths
  • Equivalent qualifications - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE Maths and/or English

You will need to have some basic knowledge of Music Technology and related subjects. This will be assessed at interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed on practical tasks, projects and productions, supported by a record of written evidence.
