AS

Unit 1 (PSYA1) Cognitive Psychology: memory encoding, storage and recall. Developmental Psychology: infant attachment and social development. Research Methods: ways of collecting and analysing psychological data.

Unit 2 (PSYA2) Physiological Psychology: nature, causes and management of stress. Social Psychology: majority influence, minority influence and obedience. Individual Differences: diagnoses, causes and treatments of mental disorders.

At A2 you will study:

Unit 3 (PSYA3) Physiological Psychology: biological rhythms, sleep states, sleep disorders, eating behaviour – attitudes, controls, disorders. Social Psychology: Aggression: explanations of individual and group aggression.

Unit 4 (PSYA4) Psychopathology: Schizophrenia – diagnosis, aetiology and therapies. Applied Psychology: media influences on behaviour. Advanced Research design: scientific investigation, data analysis and reporting. Debates and Issues: Determinism, reductionism, gender and cultural biases.

Entry requirements

To enter the AS/A2 course of study you will need to secure at least GCSE grades C in Additional Science or the relevant Triple Science, and C in English OR Maths.
