Course content

PHILOSOPHY AND ETHICS GCSE (Short Course) Every week students have a one hour lesson of RE in Years 10 and 11. This will lead to a GCSE A* - G or Certificate of Achievement - Pass, Credit or Distinction. YEAR 10 Christianity - Medical Ethics: Animal Testing; Abortion; Infertility; Suicide; Euthanasia Christianity - Human Relationships: Marriage; Sexual Relationships; Contraception; Family; Divorce. YEAR 11 Judaism - Nature of Belief: God; Worship; Festivals; Food; Artifacts; Synagogue Judaism – Nature of God: God; Reasons for belief in God; Torah; Talmud; Miracles; Prophets. Relevance of the course: This course will help students be more aware of important issues and reflect on their own opinions and the opinions of others. Religious Studies is a useful GCSE for many areas of work, as it involves thinking about other people and relating to personal, social, ethical and medical issues.

Assessment

Assessment: Students are assessed by examination only - There is no coursework.  The one examination paper lasts for two hours.  5% extra is awarded for SPAG - spelling, punctuation and grammar.
