A2 Level: Health and Social Care at King Edward VII Science and Sport College, Coalville

Course description

 In particular, the aims of the GCE qualifications in Health and Social Care are to:

Develop and sustain an interest in the health and social care sector, including early-years and care of the elderly.

Acquire knowledge and understanding of health, early-years care and education and issues affecting the health and social care sector.

Develop research, evaluation and problem-solving skills in a work related context.

Apply knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to the Health and Social Care Sector.

Prepare for future study and training.

The content of the A2 will develop AS content through addressing the factors affecting, and issues involved in, service delivery.  Students will study six units of work (unit titles to be confirmed) with exams in January and June that will follow the following key areas of study:

¨ Service provision and practitioner roles

¨ Understanding human behaviour and development

¨ Their ability to draw together aspects of these areas in a variety of contexts

 

 

Course content

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades A*-C

 

 

Assessment

The AS GCE (Single Award) is made up of 3 mandatory units which are equally weighted. The first unit is an exam unit which is taken in January. The two other units are assessed via coursework which are started from January.

The Advanced GCE (Advanced Award) comprises an additional 3 equally weighted units and is assessed in the same manner as the AS level.
