BTEC Sport at The Thetford Academy

Course description

GENERAL AIMS: This course is aimed at students with a keen

interest in Sport. This qualification is typically (although not

exclusively) aimed at young people who are seeking a career

in the sports industry or wishing to further their studies.

Throughout the two years students will develop their

coaching abilities and understanding of related concepts.

COURSE OUTLINE: Students will complete work in the

following mandatory units: Principles of Anatomy and

Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness, Assessing

Risk in Sport and Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise.

A further 3 units will be covered, which may come from

the following: Work Experience in Sport, Leadership in

Sport or Sports Coaching, Instructing Physical Activity,

Sports Development, Practical Team or Individual

Sports and Psychology for Sports Performance.

NATURE OF STUDY: Learning will be through theoretically

based lessons, which will be supported by students

completing individual research tasks. Some units of work

will also be supported by practically based lessons.

Entry requirements

Sixth Form Entry

Year 12

A Levels

5 A*-C at GCSE, including a C in English + Mathematics,

with a B grade in the chosen subject areas for A Level.

BTEC Level 3

4 A*-C, preferably including a C in English + Mathematics.

BTEC Level 2

2 D grades.

Year 13

Each student’s work is reviewed at the end of

Year 12 and progress into Year 13 is dependent on

satisfactory performance in the examinations.
