English Language and Literature (A) AS AQA 2720 at Sandown Bay Academy
The English Department continues to offer this new English A’Level following from its successful launch last year. The course is aimed at providing a stimulating combination of reading and analysis of written and spoken texts as well as the chance to develop written skills. Students who have enjoyed studying both of these areas of English and would like to continue their Post-16 studies with a course that combines coursework and examined units will enjoy the range and breadth of this new course. At AS Level Students study three modern texts – ‘The History Boys’ by Alan Bennett, ‘The Kite Runner’ by Khaled Hosseini and ‘The Caretaker’ by Harold Pinter. The language element of the course focuses on representations of speech. Students who enjoy reading and writing enjoy this course. AS Units: Unit 1 - ELLA1 Integrated Analysis and Text Production Unit 2 - ELLA2 Analysing Speech and Its Representation
C grade or above in both English Language and English Literature GCSE.
You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in English Language and Literature, which could lead onto higher education in English Language and Literature Studies or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to English Language and Literature Studies such as a Teacher, Journalist or Author. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
