Health & Social Care Level 3 at Warrington & Vale Royal College

Course description

Are you extremely motivated? Do you seek a challenge? Do you wish to work in the public sector helping others enjoy a better quality of life? If the answer to these questions is yes, then this is the course for you! This is a one year programme, offering progression on to further study at Level 3 or entry into employment.

Course content

This course includes the following topics;

  • Health & Safety
  • Equality & Diversity
  • Psychological Perspectives
  • Lifespan Development
  • Sociology
  • Psychology
  • Personal and Professional Development.

You will also be required to complete a series of work placements.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs (grade C/4 or above) including maths and English. If you have not already achieved GCSE grade C / 4 or above in English or maths, you will be expected to work towards a qualification as part of your vocational course. This will increase your chances of employment or progression onto higher education. You will be assessed and put onto a suitable course which will enable you to achieve a qualification.


Learning will be assessed by various methods, reflecting our willingness to cater for all students who may have different learning styles. Assessment methods include written work, presentations, participating in interactive / practical situations to provide assessment evidence.

An element of the course will include external assessment of some units.

Financial information

There will be additional costs when starting the course include the cost of your DBS check. It is recommended that you purchase a pen drive and a Child Care book for reference and assignment purposes. Which one you should purchase and where to purchase them, will be advised on the course induction day. You may be eligible for help with these costs

Future opportunities

On completion of the course, learners will gain a recognised Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care. This will allow you to find employment within this sector, or progress onto further study in this area.

Further information

Will I complete work placements?

You will need to attend a mandatory placement for at least 1 day each week during the course.

Are trips and residentials organised during the course?

There will be various opportunities for you to visit local hospitals and other locations within the care industry.

Are there any links with industry?

The college has strong links with industry, therefore guest speakers are invited into college to share their own personal experiences. You will also provide support in the community during your own placement experience.

    • By Rail: Anyone travelling by train should disembark at Central Station in Warrington. Our Winwick Road Campus is around a 20 minute walk along the A49 (you will pass the Warrington Wolves RLFC stadium and the Tesco supermarket on your left).

      By Bus: Warrington & Vale Royal College is easily accessible by bus from the town centre and nearby Cheshire districts. Bus numbers* 19, 20, 21, 22 from the Warrington Bus Station to Winwick Road Campus.
