BTEC Level 3 Applied Science (Forensics) at The Ripley Academy

Course description

Level 3 Certificate (Year 12) – Three units studied: Fundamentals of Science, Working in the Science Industry and Scientific Practical Techniques.

Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (Year 13) - Three further units: Chemical Laboratory Techniques, Genetics and Forensic Evidence Collection and Analysis.

Entry requirements

Students are required to have C grade in Core and Additional Science GCSE or a Merit in a BTEC Science Level 2 course.

Assessment

There are no examinations; the qualification is entirely assessed via the completion of a number of assignments which can be graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Future opportunities

This course is ideal for any students considering a future career where a good grounding in scientific principles and practice is useful.  It provides a route into employment that uses science e.g. technician in laboratory, hospital, research, testing, forensic science service, chemical or engineering industries, police, armed forces etc. It can also be used as a route into higher education.
