Course content

  • Love through the ages
  • Texts in shared contexts - modern times: literature from 1945 to the present day.
  • Independent critical study - 20% coursework piece comparing two texts (one of which has to be pre-1900) of your choice

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 higher grades at GCSE inlcuding English and maths

A high grade in either English language or literature at GCSE due to the level of written analysis required.  Students must be willing to complete wider reading outside of lessons.


Externally set examination and coursework.

Future opportunities

Many of our students go on to study English- related subjects at university and pursue careers in many fields, including: General management, Research, Consultancy, Public service, Education, Publishing, Journalism and the Media.  As a Russell Group defined facilitating subject, English literature is seen as an excelelnt subject for entry to Russell Group universities.
