Is this course for me?
BTEC is a vocational course, you must have a genuine interest in H&SC, and a positive attitude to new experiences! You should also be prepared to meet deadlines, accept guidance, and develop independent study skills. The course is challenging, but very rewarding, and is excellent preparation for employment or university.
What will I Be Studying? The BTEC Diploma in Health & Social Care is worth 2 A Levels. It is suitable for you if you have a genuine interest in health, education or social care work or if you plan to study a related subject at university. You will study
many different aspects of health and care, from communication skills to health & safety and equality laws, and from Biology to Psychology.
Learning about the basics of care and the practical side of maintaining good relationships with others will provide you with useful experiences, transferable skills and abilities. BTEC Health & Social Care combines well with all AS and A level subjects, and students choices regarding what other subjects to take will depend on their interests and future career aims. Candidates considering a degree in nursing or midwifery sometimes opt to take a science-based A level.
You must have at least 5A*-C at GCSE including Science
This 2-year course has no exams; you will be assessed entirely through essays, projects, presentations and research. This includes a work placement where you can use and develop the skills you have learned.
You may choose to use your qualifications to go straight into employment, rather than go on to higher education. Because BTEC H&SC helps you to develop the transferable skills and key skills that employers are looking for, this course can lead to a very wide range of employment opportunities including further training in such areas as social work and caring as well as many other areas of work, particularly those which involve working with people
With one of a range of National Curriculum subjects at A level, it supports applications for Teacher Training or Social Work. Health & Social Care provides the basis for a broad range of university courses, whether in Social Science, Education, Health Studies or other subjects. The variety of units studied provides students with a wide range of experiences and abilities, suitable for many different subjects.
