Applied Science (QCF) Level 3 BTEC Diploma at North Lindsey College

Course description

This course carries the equivalent UCAS points of 2 A levels and is a two year course.
students are able to combine their study on this course with A levels and/or GCSE's. This qualification gives the student the opportunity to study various scientific genres within a broad curriculum.
Students will develop technical skills and vocational skills for both the workplace and higher education covering a range of units such as scientific investigation, practical chemical analysis, microbiological techniques and many more.

Course content

You will take part in a range of teaching and learning activities such as group work, role play, practical activities, written assignments and researching information using books and computers. You will be expected to carry out independent work in your own time throughout this course.

Entry requirements

Minimum course requirements are 5 GCSE's at level A, B or C
GCSE's must include English, Maths and at least one Science


The BTEC level 3 Diploma is assessed by coursework throughout the course and this will be graded to Pass, Merit or Distinction level. The higher grades gain more UCAS points.

Future opportunities

Progression is generally directly into higher education, to study for a degree, HNC, HND, foundation degree or into the scientific industry for posts such as Laboratory Technician. The course may also be a suitable starting point for Forensic Analysis and progression into teaching.
