Bench Joinery Apprenticeship Level 2 at City College Coventry

Course description

An apprenticeship in site carpentry will involve you working on a construction site or in a domestic commercial premises to given specifications, carrying our site carpentry to first and second fixing (door frames, hanging doors, boxing pipes, window frames and floor joists).

Course content

An apprenticeship in bench carpentry will involve working in a joiners shop, producing wood products to given specifications for use by the site carpenter such as doors, window frames and stair cases

The use of machinery in the production of products plays an important part within the joiners shop.

Qualifications you will obtain upon completion include:

  • Level 2 NVQ in Site Carpentry
  • Level 2 NVQ in Bench Joinery
  • Level 3 NVQ in Site Carpentry
  • Level 3 NVQ in Bench Joinery

You will develop your skills and knowledge in a range of learning support related topics that include:

  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace, plus either Installing First Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Installing Second Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Erecting Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace
  • Setting Up and Using Transportable Cutting and Shaping Machines in the Workplace

OR

  • Setting Up and Using Transportable Cutting and Shaping Machines in the Workplace
  • Producing Setting Out Details for Routine Architectural Joinery Products in the Workplace
  • Marking Out From Setting Out Details for Routine Architectural Joinery Products in the Workplace

Entry requirements

You need to be employed in a relevant role to join an Apprenticeship programme plus:

4 GCSEs Grade D or above, including English & maths

or a relevant Level 1 qualification combined with GCSE/Level 1 English & Maths. If you do not have these qualifications, you may need to be tested.
