Engineering Industries Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at Milton Keynes College
The engineering sector is incredibly varied and opportunities exist locally to work for world-class engineering companies who are leaders in their chosen fields. Many are household names, and an apprenticeship should be considered as the first step in your career with these organisations.
The engineering sector within the UK is growing. There is expected to be a net requirement across the engineering sectors in England for 72,000 engineers, scientists and technologists between 2010 and 2016. The sector has a high proportion of hard-to-fill vacancies and a high number of skills shortages. This, along with an ageing workforce, highlights the need for an apprenticeship to both up-skill the existing workforce and to encourage new entrants into the sector.
To take part in this programme you will need:
- GCSEs at grades A-D in English, Maths and a Science (or equivalent)
- good IT Skills
- strong problem-solving and team-working skills
- an attention to detail and be able to use own initiative.
Much of the programme is assessed in the workplace, however you will be required to attend College. The number of days that you attend will depend upon the needs of your employer and your existing experience and qualifications. Your time at College will lead to qualifications which are achieved by completing assignments and demonstrating your practical skills. Some elements such as functional skills are assessed by exam.Whilst in the workplace, you will also need to gather evidence to demonstrate your competence. You will be allocated an assessor who will guide and support you throughout your Apprenticeship programme.
Applicants who complete the programme can look forward to progressing to a Level 4 programme such as an appropriate Higher National Certificate.
Similarly, extensive progression and CPD opportunities exist within the workplace.
