BTEC Level 3 Certificate/Extended Certificate in Travel & Tourism (1 A Level equivalent) at Huddersfield New College

Course description

You will study topics which cover the different sectors of the Travel and Tourism industry including:

• Managing the customer experience
• Investigating global destinations
• Understanding the world of Travel and Tourism
• Exploring visitor attractions

Course content

A variety of teaching methods and learning styles are used and developed throughout the course including group work, independent research, applying case study material, role play, report writing, presentations, examination preparation and the use of IT.

The student experience is also supported by a number of trips including Blackpool, Dublin and the Peak District National Park. Students also have the opportunity to take additional qualifications that can enhance their study, these include: NCFE level 2 Certificates in Air Cabin Crew, Resort Representatives and Events Planning.

Students take Travel and Tourism together with a range of other subjects because they are interested in the subject, wish to pursue a career in this large and expanding area of employment or see it as complementary to their other subject choices.

The course is assessed by a combination of assignments and is graded at Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*.

You should talk to our excellent department staff at one of our open events to understand the different elements of assessment.

Please note the awarding body for all BTEC qualifications recently made the decision to extend the current BTEC courses in our offer beyond 2018. This means that for 2018 entry, all Level 3 vocational subjects will continue to be assessed by coursework only, with the exception of Art and Design.

Future opportunities

Employment opportunities for students who study Travel and Tourism and Events Management include working for Al Fresco Holidays, Jet 2, Thomas Cook and British Airways. Students also continue into higher education at university, studying degree courses in Travel and Tourism, Events Management, Hospitality and Business Tourism.
