English GCSE Level 2 AQA at Longdean School

Course description

You will repeat all coursework activities, both oral and written, for which you have not already received a grade C or above. This may involve a range of speaking and listening activities, writing tasks or responses to texts. • You will be offered texts and topics more adult in content and purpose. Every effort is made to see that the course is new and challenging, to encourage and develop maturity in response. • You will be prepared for the four units of the examinations. How is the course examined or assessed? • The coursework will be examined by coursework (40%) and two examination papers (60%). Reading, writing and presentation are assessed in the examination papers and in coursework. Speaking and listening are assessed in coursework only. Paper 1 1. Reading response to non-fiction/media texts. 2. Writing to argue, persuade or advise. Paper 2 A. Reading response to poetry from other cultures. B. Writing to inform, explain or describe. Coursework 1. Shakespeare 2. Prose study 3. Media 4. Original writing

Future opportunities

A grade C in English is a prime requirement for almost all further education courses and many employment opportunities.You will follow this course with two or three other AS levels or an Advanced Diploma and, additionally, the compulsory core such as PSHE, RE, PE/Games
