BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business at Ysgol Emrys Ap Iwan
A BTEC National Diploma provides the complete coursework method of obtaining an A Level grade qualification. There are no examinations. The course can be studied over a 1 or 2 year period, covering a total of 6 Units about various aspects of business functions and operations. They provide learners with the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes that are essential for successful performance in working life.
The course is made up of six units – 4 mandatory units and 2 optional units. The optional units focus on the Retail Pathway to reflect the development of that type of business in the local area.
Four Mandatory Units:
- The Business Environment
- Business Resources
- Introduction to Marketing
- Business Communication
Two Optional Units:
- Visual Merchandising in Retail
- Food Retailing
You will need to have at least one of the following:
- A BTEC 1st Diploma in a related subject at Merit or higher grade
- A minimum of four GCSEs at grades A*- C with preferably C in English
- Appropriate work experience
- An interview with the Course Leader
Students produce a portfolio of evidence for each of the units. Each unit is internally assessed and awarded a grade and points. The points from each unit are compiled to obtain the final grade for the course which will be classified as either:
BTEC National Diplomas are valued by employers and higher education (colleges and universities). The course provides a grounding for work in food, non-food or fashion retail, customer service, stock control or personal selling. Students may decide to go on to university or college where there are options to take a degree in Business or a BTEC Higher National in Business or Retail Management.
