Maths A/S at Queensbury School
A level mathematics is a valuable subject for any student to have as it will open so many doors in the future!
What does the AS Mathematics course cover?
AS Module - Pure Core 1
- Coordinate Geometry
AS Module Pure Core 2
- Algebra and Functions
- Sequences and Series
- Exponentials and Logarithms
AS Module Mechanics 1
- Newtons Lawsof Motion 1
- Newtons Laws of Motion 2
You will need a minimum of 5 A*-C grades (or equivalent) in your GCSEs, including at least a grade C in GCSE English Language anda grade B in Mathematics.
To progress onto the second year, you need to gain at least a pass grade from the first year.
The exams are held in both January and June each year and are generally taken as follows:
June 1st Year - Core 1, Core 2 and Mechanics
June 2nd Year - Core 3, Core 4 and Decisions 1
During the first two weeks you will be doing an induction booklet called 'Mind the Gap'. This is to enable you to revise basic concepts that will be needed through the course. At the end of the induction period you will sit a short assessment, (only topics covered inthe booklet will be assessed). You will be expected to achieve 50% or more.
Higher Education--Mathematical, science or business related course.
Career Options--teaching, banking, accountancy
Mathematics As/A2 GCE can be taken along with any combination of courses, but sits particularly well alongside the following: AS/AS GCE Physics, AS/A2 GCE Chemistry, Business Studies, AS/A2
