Advanced Apprenticeship in Bench Joinery at Rotherham College

Course description

Build your career in construction and learn a skilled trade with our hands-on practical learning that will prepare you for the construction industry.

Rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, our Construction department hosts first-class facilities, providing you with the perfect foundations to construct a successful career. Whether it’s brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, plastering or plumbing, our industry experienced tutors will support you in moving up the career ladder, no matter what level you start at.

The College has strong links with employers such as Willmott Dixon, and our tools are state of the art, thanks to generous donations from Stanley Black and Decker. Previous students have taken part in the HOPE Strategy project; where Rotherham College teamed up with Rotherham Borough Council and charity Action Housing to help renovate derelict houses into fully functioning, modern homes for vulnerable people. There are fantastic opportunities to showcase your skills at competitions such as SkillBuild, as well as the possibility for your work to be entered for the City and Guilds Gold Awards.

Course content

You are on your way to becoming a competent tradesperson by completing this Apprenticeship. This programme allows you to be trained in the workplace by your employer, and you will be assigned an assessor who will support you in the building of your portfolio. The Apprenticeship will help you to develop further knowledge and skills to support your career progression within the carpentry and joinery industry.

What will I study?

•Assemble furniture components

•Prototype design in furniture

•Research and product development •Supervision in a furniture environment •Functional Skills in maths and English (for those who have not achieved GCSE grades C or above)

•You must have completed the Intermediate Apprenticeship in Bench Joinery
