Course description

A valuable course that will help you to gain a critical understanding of the society in which you live. You will learn how society shapes our ideas, social behaviour and cultures and, how, in turn, people interact together and shape their societies. At AS Level, you will learn about the individual and society, and about how sociologists study societies and social behaviour. You will also study Youth Culture.

A Level (year two)

Unit Three January examination

A2 G673: Power and Control: Crime and Deviance

In this unit, you will explore issues of power and control through a detailed study of crime and deviance.

Unit Four Summer examination

A2 G674: Exploring social inequality and difference

In this unit you will apply all of your sociological knowledge and understanding to an analysis of inequality and poverty in the contemporary UK. You will examine social inequality and difference in relation to gender, class, ethnicity and age.

Entry requirements

No prior knowledge of Sociology is required. However, we expect students to have an interest in society, culture and identity. We also expect them to work hard!
