Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) ASDAN (compulsory V.A.L.P. component) at Sandown Bay Academy

Course description

The CoPE course for 2012 entry has been re-developed to provide more innovative opportunites for learners who want to take the challenge! As a CoPE ambassador you will complete projects that really encourage you to find the best inside of you and develop some extremely important skills. During your two year programme you will have opportunities to work both as part of a group and individually. You will have the opportunity to take part in the CoPE skills development workshops: including First Aid, financial planning, teambuilding and future progression. You will also have the opportunity to work with younger students from the school community - helping with some lessons in the Performing Arts, Construction, Workskills, Horticulture and Torch. This is an excellent opportunity to show future universities or employers that you have got that extra something! Assessment: Students produce a portfolio of evidence, which should demonstrate competence in the Wider Key Skills (Working with Others, Improving Own Learning and Performance and Problem Solving) at Level 3 and the units Planning and Carrying out Research, Communicating through Discussion and Planning and Giving an Oral Presentation at Level 3. Entry requirements

You are studying at least one vocational course that involves group-based work. You will be invited for interview to assess further suitability for the course.

Future opportunities

Having studied and practised personal learning and thinking skills you have developed skills current and future employers are looking for. You will have a proven track record in achieving group and individual goals, optimising you own learning and using you initiative to remove certain barriers to success. The CoPE has UCAS points attached to the qualification and provides you with some of the skills you need to excel at University including high level group work, self-directed learning and meeting stringent deadlines. A foundation degree in your vocation would be seen as an accessible progression route. CoPE at Level 3 has recognition from UCAS and is worth 70 UCAS points. The ASDAN CoPE, through the curriculum content, but in particular the development of generic personal, learning and thinking skills, also provides the opportunity to generate evidence for Diploma development at different levels. The generic skills facilitate lifelong learning, are transferable and support access to, and success in, HE and employment.
