History AS/A-Level at Shire Oak Academy

Course description

This course consists of 5 units.

Course content

Year 12:

  • Unit 1 - The Tudors: England, 1485 - 1547 - 1hr 30 min exam (50% of AS grade)
  • Unit 2 - Democracy and Nazism: Germany, 1918 - 1933 - 1hr 30 min exam (50% of AS grade)

Year 13:

  • Unit 1 - The Tudors: England, 1485 - 1603 - 2hr 30min examination (40% of A level grade)
  • Unit 2 - Democracy and Nazism: Germany, 1918 - 1945 - 2hr 30 min exam (40% of A level grade)
  • Unit 3 - Historical Enquiry - The Civil Rights Movement in America (20% of A level grade)

Entry requirements

Students who wish to study A-level History, will be expected to have obtained a pass at Grade C or above at GCSE in the subject. It must be stressed that given the nature of the course, a similar grade in English is advisable.

Future opportunities

A-level History will definitely help in any university course or career involving law, politics or archaeology and many more! Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) studied History at Oxford. Louis Theroux, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Sting and many others studied History.
