Fine Art A Level at Lydiard Park Academy

Course description

This is a practical and creative course in which students will explore traditional and contemporary ideas about art. Students will work with a variety of materials and techniques- painting and drawing, 3D work and ceramics, photography, printmaking, mixed media, contextual studies Fine art is a practical and academic A level which provides a creative outlet and a high level of challenge.

As well as developing and enhancing your fine art skills your coursework portfolio will enable you to develop an idea from concepts and studies to finished final pieces. Students who choose this course will benefit from a stimulating practical form of expression which provides distinctive skills and experience for life, work and further studies

Course content

AS: Unit 1 AS unit 1 is portfolio of work based around the natural and human environment. Students work towards completing a final piece of work of their choice

Unit 2 AS unit 2 is an externally set assignment. It is produced in supervised conditions over 5 hours and will be marked by the centre and moderated by AQA.

A2: Unit 3 A2 unit 3 is a personal investigation supported by written element of 1000-3000 words, set and marked by the centre and moderated by AQA

Unit 4 A2 unit 4 is an externally set assignment. It is produced in timed conditions over 15 hours. Work produced will be marked by the centre and moderated by AQA

Entry requirements

A successful student will need: ● An interest and flair for art and enjoy drawing and working with fine art materials. ● Have attained a grade B or above in GCSE Art. ● Be able to work independently. ● Have the ability to research and analyse, communicate ideas and present work to a high standard. ● Be prepared to spend a lot of time on your art work.
