BTEC Level 3 in Sport at The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls

Course description

This is a modular course as it is 100% coursework. Students will need to complete three mandatory units (Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness and Assessing Risk in Sport) and one optional unit to provide a total of 30 credits. In addition to completing the Certificate in Year 12 students need to complete a further mandatory unit (can be chosen from Sports Nutrition, Fitness Training and Programming, The Athlete’s Lifestyle or Psychology for Sports Performance) plus optional units to provide a total of 60 credits across Year 12 and 13.

Course content

Students will cover a range of topics including anatomy and physiology, risks in sports, physiology of fitness, sports nutrition, fitness training and sports psychology. They can also choose the subject content for their optional units. 

Entry requirements

Minimum of a C grade in GCSE PE or a Level 2 pass in BTEC Sport. 

Assessment

Work will be assessed throughout the course. A grade for each unit (Pass, Merit, Distinction) will be given and an overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* for the whole course. A range of different types of work will be assessed. As well as written work students will be assessed through visual and oral presentations, role play, practical work and project work.
